Gianluca Spina

From 2011 Gianluca Spina (January 6, 1964 – February 21, 2015) was President and Dean of MIP Politecnico di Milano – today POLIMI Graduate School of Management, Full Professor in Business Management and Supply Chain Management at the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering of Politecnico di Milano, and President of Associazione Italiana di Ingegneria Gestionale (Italian Association of Management Engineering) for the two-years period 2011-2013.

Under his leadership the School of Management of the Politecnico di Milano entered the Financial Times ranking among the most prestigious Business Schools in the world.

Biografia

Gianluca Spina graduated with honors in Electronic Engineering in 1988 and since 1990 has taught Management and Business Economics in various study programs of Politecnico di Milano.

He was President of the Associazione Italiana di Ingegneria Gestionale for the two-years period 2011-2013 and since 2001 he has been at the helm of MIP Politecnico di Milano (now POLIMI Graduade School of Management), first as Director and since 2011 as President and Dean.

In this role, Gianluca Spina has given impetus to the internationalization of the School, obtaining the EQUIS accreditation from the European Foundation for Management Development and creating several partnerships with prestigious management schools in Europe, Asia and Americas.

Under his leadership, MIP entered the Financial Times rankings as one of the top 100 business and management schools in the world.

Throughout his career he was a member of several international scientific associations and was nominated as Fellow of the European Operations Management Association.

Professor Spina has placed management engineering and management education at the center of his career, always highlighting its fundamental social value both for individuals and for the development of the society.

In his last years Gianluca has often asked himself the question of what the future of education would be and has stimulated continuous innovation in methodologies, contents and teaching formats.

He passed away on February 21, 2015 during a tragic accident in the mountains.

Carriera

ACCADEMICA

Since 2000, Gianluca Spina has been Full Professor of Business Management at the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano.

His research interests have covered the areas of industrial production, purchasing and supply chain relationships, with a focus on strategic and organizational aspects. He has been the author of about 180 publications on these topics, including 6 books and over 30 articles in international scientific journals.
